An example on how vibrant and exciting the market for CSR and engagement is in South Africa I experienced today as I was invited by the largest broadcasting and newspaper companies to witness the pre-release of the LEAD SA campaign. This campaign is reaching out to ALL South Africans to STAND UP, DO THE RIGHT THING AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN SOCIETY.
Initiated by the media they invited all key leaders and decision makers (and me) do work together and move South Africa forward just like we did with the world cup and now beyond. Companies, NGO's, Government, religious organisations and every individual is called upon to inspire the vision that we can make a change in society. We will build a platform to enable people to act and we will provide a model the way. The most inspiring of this session was the message that every individual can make a change no matter how big or small his interaction is. It starts by following your heart and don't throw your rubbish on the street, read your children to sleep, care about your family and clean your neighborhood, respect the law and say no to crime and corruption. It was so special because two weeks ago I had the honor to give a workshop on social entrepreneurship to 50 talented students on the AIESEC Procter & gamble career day. I also recommended them to follow their heart and to see in their future career how they can play a part to make a change in their own way.
At the end of the LEAD SA presentation, where we already got a view on today’s front pages of the leading SA newspapers, we could stand up and present our contribution. Here I announced the success of the orange bracelet of the rainbow collection and the numbers of jobs we created just by following our dreams. The idea was warmly embraced and I am already excited about the idea that 40 million South Africans will wear our locally produced LEAD SA bracelet and just imagine how many jobs we can create for the rural women of KwaZulu Natal (and other disadvantaged areas)...
