EsteamWork proudly supports the TAP team on their journey to Tanzania, from July 2nd until July 10th, 2009.
What is the TAP team?
The TAP team is a group of ten young professionals, all alumni of the global student organization AIESEC. Although we work at different organizations and in different positions, we all share the same vision. In 2008, we started a new movement to create meaningful connections between companies and the Millennium Development Goals. We do so in collaboration with the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Dutch Center for Sustainable Development (NCDO) and the United Nations Volunteers (UNV).
Why are we going to Tanzania?
Sustainable business is the key to development. That is the vision we share. We aim to inspire the corporate sector to take its responsibility, by generating ideas, spreading lessons learned and creating new linkages between companies and NGO’s. The mission to Tanzania is part of a larger program in which we aim to engage the AIESEC alumni network (over 500.000 professionals worldwide!) to deliver a contribution to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
In April 2009, we organized an “MDG Dragons’ Den” to motivate over 50 AIESEC alumni to brainstorm on business plans that contribute to the MDGs. They presented their ideas to a panel of ‘Dragons’, consisting of six captains of industry, the Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs and the coordinator of UNV.

Now is the time to take matters one step further, which is why we are going to Tanzania.
What are we doing in Tanzania?
We are going to Tanzania to learn, link and inspire. This is achieved by:
•Visiting four companies that are active in Tanzania and contributing – in different ways - to the MDG’s. These are Philips Healtcare, SAB Miller, D.light and Tanga Fresh. By speaking to representatives from these companies, their non-profit partners and their suppliers and customers, we learn how business can be sustainable and profitable at the same time.

•Organizing an MDG Dragons’ Den, in cooperation with AIESEC Tanzania. Thus we inspire local young professionals and captains of industry to take their responsibilities. On top of that, we make movies of the companies we visit, in order to inspire other companies to do contribute to the MDGs by doing business in developing countries.

•Supporting the UNV in formulating their strategy for cooperation with the private sector. New linkages will be established between the UNV, the companies visited, the partners they work with, the local Chamber of Commerce (TCCIA) and the participants of the Dragons’ Den.

And next…?
TAP is like a running train, building its’ own railway. We don’t know when and where our journey ends. But for sure we will organize activities to follow up on our mission to Tanzania. Such as:
•an evaluation & way forward meeting with the participating organizations at the UNV in Bonn, in September 2009.

•a follow up meeting for the participants of the MDG Dragons’ Den, together with NCDO.

•production and distribution of the movies made.

•and probably much more, since we live by the motto: “change the world or go home!”
