Jaap studied art in Venezuela, dutch law in Maastricht and finished his Masters, writing his thesis on Health Education and Health Promotion in Tanzania. His first work experience in the field of global sustainable development was his participation in the Business in Development Challenge, a business plan contest to stimulate entrepreneurship and economic growth in emerging markets. Jaap contacted organisations, companies and people all over the world to join the Challenge. For Fairfood International he was responsible for consumer marketing and campaigning. Jaap's activities mainly focussed on promoting Dutch consumers to buy fair food products as part of their daily routine. The past few years, his interest particularly goes to working together with small enterprises and organisations in the developing world to their expand skills, creativity and knowledge. Not only by offering the opportunity to learn from fair trade best practices, but also to grant access to additional target markets internationally.
Jaap is very enthusiastic to be part of the Rainbow team. He believes that the Rainbow team can substantially contribute to a global market place that is increasingly based on fair trade principles, reducing poverty and creating equal opportunities.
