Yannick van Balen (1980) studied BA Communication and Management at the Hogeschool in Holland and she also holds a degree in Young Enterprise in Oxford.

Yannick is a trainer and a social entrepreneur. During her studies she has already been involved in several social entrepreneurial activities. For example she has developed and coordinated an art project with unaccompanied minor asylum seekers, to make local governments and their inhabitants more aware of their personal situation using art as a way of expressing themselves better.

As a co-founder of Edutainment Nederland Yannick has worked intensively linking education with entertainment. By doing so she has developed several workshops for students on specific topics, e.g. Environment, History, Arts, Literature, Theater, Multimedia and Geography.

For Behold she is active as a trainer and project manager. She is the Netherlands country manager for the Global Tread lightly project of TakingITGlobal and the Staples Foundation. Tread Lightly is a climate change education initiative offered by TakingITGlobal with the generous support of the Staples Foundation for Learning. The first Tread Lightly project, "Staples® and Students Together for a Smaller Footprint," incorporates artistic expression, online tools and resources, along with a global 40-day challenge to engage secondary school students in minimising their ecological footprints. For more information on this challenging programme please find treadlightly.tigweb.org.
